Rhea dashed towards the city through the pounding rain with her arms over her head. Ahead of her she could see the outline of a building in the outskirts of the city and made a b-line for it. Ducking into the entrance, Rhea tried to shake some of the water off her clothes and hair, while muttering
“Why did I leave Flare in the box?” angrily to herself. After getting the worst off the wet off she looked round the building she had took shelter in. There were no lights, but the door way seemed to be made of a white marble like stone. It was getting dark and the rain was showing no signs of clearing up. Rhea decided they may as well stop for the night and let out her team. “Get comfortable guys, looks like we’re staying here for tonight” Star looked behind them to the darkness beyond.
“Where exactly is here?” she asked
“Moonlight, do you think you could give us some light”
“Of course” Moonlight replied. Her rings glowed blue until much of the building was illuminated by blue light.
“Ekkk!” Flower squealed and ran behind Rhea. They all stood frozen for a moment then Star ran forward and tapped the large white figure on the foot.
“It’s just a statue” She said and they all relaxed. Moonlight walked forward, staring at the large Pokémon statue.
“This is the legendary dragon Pokémon Reshiram”
“How do you know that?” Shadow asked curiously. Moonlight ignored him and walked away. Rhea saw his ears droop slightly. Aria had fluttered up to perch on the statues head.
“What’s this doing here?” She asked
“Get down from there!” Moonlight shouted, her voice echoing around the building. “That’s very disrespectful!” Aria hurriedly flew off. Moonlight brushed a paw along the statues foot, talking to herself “This is very well cared for, people must come here regularly. This must be a sort of temple for Reshiram” The others decided to leave Moonlight to what she was doing and gathered round Rhea who had sat down with her back against the wall.
“What do we do now?” Aria asked.
“Well ideally we’d need a warm place to sleep” Rhea answered
“But truth be told, we’re going to have to stay here” Star finished. At her words there was a rumble that filled the temple.
“Ahh!” Flower screamed “Thunder!”
“Will you be quiet!” Moonlight shouted. They all looked round. Moonlight was walking round the base of the statue with her nose pressed to the floor.
“Sorry” Flower muttered. She walked over and lay down next to Rhea and leaned against her. A drip of water landed on her head. “Rhea, you’re all wet” she said in alarm
“It’s just a bit of rain water” Rhea shrugged
“Don’t lie” Star said “You’re soaked” There was another rumble. Flower pressed closer to Rhea.
“It sounds very close. I want to be back home with my dad” Rhea gave her a speculative look
“Really?” she asked
“Well no” Flower admitted “I really like you guys” Again there was a rumble. Moonlight came padding across the room.
“Rhea, can you come and look at something for me?” Rhea gently moved away from Flower and stood up
“Wait here guys. Might as well get comfy” She followed Moonlight back to the statue. “What is it?” she asked.
“Look” Moonlight answered, pressing her nose towards the base of the statue. There was a gap there now, a decent size. Rhea thought if it was a bit bigger she could probably fit through it.
“How did that get there? Where does it go?” Rhea asked.
“I’m not sure. For both questions. It started to appear when you were all talking, the statue started to move back in odd intervals” Something clicked in Rheas head.
“It’s not thunder we can hear, it’s this statute moving”
“Yes. But why is it moving?” Moonlight was walking back and forth. Rhea felt the confusion coming from her. She sat down, crossed her legs and relaxed as she would if she were to meditate.
“Tell me about Reshiram Moonlight, you seem to know about him” Moonlight sat down next to her
“Actually in most popular representations, Reshiram is often referred to as a girl”
“Ok” Rhea said “So who was she? You said she was a legendary dragon Pokémon.”
“Yes. She is one of this worlds legendary Pokémon. Reshiram is believed to have helped create a whole region with twin heroes. But when she did this Reshiram was in fact one Pokémon combined with her partner legendary, Zekrom” Rhea did not interrupt her, eager to hear the story “The single Pokémon had twin human partners to assist it. But one day these twins argued over which was right, truth or ideals. The argument caused the Pokémon to split into Reshiram and Zekrom, each choosing a side. They two fought but this mean the Pokémon was fighting itself, so they were evenly matched. In the end the twins set aside their differences and ended the fight. But the heroes sons continued the battle and Reshiram and Zekrom ended up destroying the region they had made. The original two heroes then teamed up again and sealed Reshiram and Zekrom away from each other, then re-built the region.” Moonlight was silent as she finished the story. Rhea was quiet in her contemplation, then asked in a low thoughtful voice.
“The two Pokémon each chose a side. Which did Reshiram side with?” Moonlight gave her a questioning look
“She chose the truth” There was another rumble and the statue slid back a few inches. Rhea and Moonlight stood and hurried over to the gap.
“I can’t see what’s down there” Rhea said. Moonlight was obviously smaller and wriggled half way through the gap, pointing her ears forward to offer more light.
“It looks like there’s some sort of altar down there” Rhea sneezed, which made Moonlight jump and bang her head on the underside of the statue. Withdrawing and shaking her head she asked “What was that?” Rhea sniffed
“It was just a sneeze” she replied then sneezed again.
“You’ve caught a cold from being in those wet clothes. You should have bought Flare with you” Rhea sneezed again
“Yeah”
“Why didn’t you?”
“Honestly, I guess I was hoping to catch another teammate” Again there was a rumble and the statue slid back again. Rhea bent down “I think I can get in here now” The gap was big enough that Moonlight could easily walk in. Rhea managed with a little help from Moonlight to get in the hidden chamber. Walking down the stone steeps the two reached the alter Moonlight had seen. There was a pedestal with a strange white stone on it. It was glowing slightly.
“Rhea?” Rhea and Moonlight jumped so much they had nearly knocked the strange stone over.
“Star!” Rhea breathed “Is something wrong?”
“No. The others fell asleep after you two came over here. When Moonlights glow disappeared I thought something was up”
“We’re OK, don’t worry” Rhea replied “You stay up there” Rhea and Moonlight looked at the strange glowing stone “What is this?” Moonlight put her paws on the pedestal and sniffed the stone.
“Some say, that when the dragons were sealed, they were sealed within light and dark stones” Rhea starred at the stone.
“You don’t think...” she whispered
“This is clearly some sort of temple. And the statue...” Rhea reached out and paused with her hand hovering just about the stone, but then she withdrew it.
“No. I shouldn’t. Let’s go Moonlight”
“Huh?” Moonlight asked
“We should go. If Reshiram is the Pokémon from that legend, then we should leave it be”
You speak the truth
“I know Moonlight. We’ll just rest here until the rain clears up and go”
“I didn’t say anything” Moonlight said.
You are truthful and kind
Rhea stopped half way up the steps. “Huh?”
I can see that kindness reflected in your partners
Rhea and Moonlight looked back to see the stone glowing and slowly rising up. “Oh, what’s happening?”
I would like to feel that kindness for myself
The whole room stared to shake. Rhea grabbed Moonlight and ran out.
“Rhea!” Star was still there “What’s going on?” The rest of the team had woken up and ran up to meet them.
“It’s Reshiram!” Moonlight replied
“Reshi-?” There was a crash and the statue was lifted away. From beneath it there rose a living breathing replica of the statue, its eyes glowing blue. Rhea and her team were standing still starring at Reshiram. She lowered her head down to their level. They all backed away a step.
“Don’t be afraid. I won’t hurt you” Reshiram said gently “For many thousands of years I was held with that stone, waiting for someone. And I chose you Rhea” Rheas mouth opened and closed a few times then she managed to say
“Why me?”
“Did I not say before? You are kind and truthful and I wish to experience that for myself” Reshiram stood back up, grasped the statue, a mirror image of herself, and slid it once more over the hole to the chamber. “Do you accept me?”
“Uh... What do you think team?” Rhea asked
“It would be an honour” said Moonlight
“I’m sure we can work together great” said Star
“Yeah, it could be fun” said Shadow glancing at Moonlight
“She seems nice” said Flower
“It certainly would be an experience” said Aria. Rhea looked at her team. They we all eager, she could feel it.
“I guess that’s a unanimous decision” Rhea sneezed again. They we’re all quiet for a moment. “He he, it’s just a little cold” The next few minutes seemed like a blur, giving Reshiram a ball, Reshiram lighting some hidden torches, everyone settling down again to sleep. But nobody seemed to be tired. Reshiram was now lying down in a loose curve with Rhea leaning against her warm side. The whole team was gathered near her head listening to the legend both she and Moonlight told.
“So to end the fighting we were both sealed away in light and dark stones”
“Which is what we found under the statue” Moonlight finished
“Wo” said Shadow. Flower nervously asked
“Do you think Zekrom found a new partner two? Would you two start fighting again?” Reshiram gave a sad sort of smile
“I hope he finds a companion again like me. But no, we would not unless we had to. Being one and the same means that we aren’t truly meant to fight”
“Well I’m sure Rhea would never force you to do anything like that if it was unnecessary” Star said “Right Rhea?” Rhea didn’t answer. The team all looked round. Rhea has fallen asleep against Reshirams side, breathing deeply. “Wow. It must be really late”
“Yes” Reshiram said softly “We should all get some rest” She gently curled up a little more tightly, smoothly sweeping the rest of the team together. One by one they all started to fall asleep until only Reshiram remained awake, one large blue eye watching them all. Careful not to disturb anyone, she lifted her head and blew out some of the nearest lights with a breath and then lowered her head down again. Slowly, her eyes began to close as well, as she felt the content feeling of happiness from her company that she had not felt for so long. And so as the night continued on the whole team slept in the company of the legend that they were now a part of. And Rhea? Rhea dreamt of flying through the sky with her team, together on the back of a great white dragon.
“Why did I leave Flare in the box?” angrily to herself. After getting the worst off the wet off she looked round the building she had took shelter in.
