Rhea and Shadow were awkwardly smiling at the Sawsbuck that was stepping through the bushes towards them “What are you doing here? Where is my daughter!” he demanded.
“Uh” Rhea said glancing at Shadow and subtlety hiding the Pokéball with the newly caught Deerling in it behind her back. Shadow was looking up at the Pokémon that was nearly three times his height with large round eyes. The Sawsbuck started to paw the ground with his hoof
“You look like a trainer. That better not be a ball behind your back” Rhea backed away. This Sawsbuck was the leader of its heard and looked very majestic, but it was also larger than average. Shadow had shot of bravery
“Hey! My trainer caught her fair and square! We’ll look after her and treat her well so leave us alone!” He’d made it worse. Bellowing in rage the Sawsbuck rammed into Shadow. Shadow flew into Rhea and the two were pushed back out the bushes.
“Shadow?” Rhea picked him up worriedly. Shadow hung limp in her hands and mumbled
“Sorry, I’m out of berries” A shadow fell over them. Rhea looked up at the Sawsbuck, then looked at the whole herd that was behind him. She gulped. A fair distance away from this, a trainer was sitting under a tree relaxing. He stirred as a sound started in the distance. A rumble along with a shout. A moment later Rhea came running past clutching Shadow to her chest.
“Aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!” A second later the herd came charging after her.
The trainer sighed “I had hoped this wouldn’t happen again” he got up and casually drew out a Pokéball. Rhea slowed down panting hard, unable to run any more. She turned and faced the herd. The leader came forward and reared on his hind legs. Rhea fell back, closed her eyes and waited for the attack. “Fire Pledge!”
“Fire Pledge?” Rhea opened her eyes. A coulomb of fire rose between her and the Sawsbuck. The rest of the herd ran away in fright. As the fire died down Rhea could see an Infernape. A trainer appeared out of nowhere and walked calmly next to the Infernape.
“I’ve told you before Rowan, you can’t keep doing this” Rhea stared. Before? Rowan? The Sawsbuck stamped his hoof. “I don’t even have to ask. This happens every time you and your herd migrate here. You should know by now that you are bound to attract trainers” The Sawsbuck reared again
“This time is different! She took my daughter!” The trainer glanced back at Rhea.
“I’m not going to remind you of past history Rowan” What did that mean? Rhea waited in silence. The Sawsbuck seems to be deflating, shrinking away from the trainer. The Infernape spoke up “You know what I can do, even if I don’t want to” The Sawsbuck threw an angry look at Rhea, then turned and head back to his herd. Rhea breathed a sigh of relief. Shadow gave his head a shake
“Uh, what happened?”
“I’ll explain later” Rhea answered. A hand appeared before her. She gratefully accepted it and the Trainer pulled her up “Thank you. I was afraid for a moment there” The trainer smiled
“No problem. He’s not bad, he just cares very much for his herd and family” Rhea had a question, but decided not to ask. “Next time, think a little more before you catch a Pokémon from a group” Rhea smiled sheepishly, then took in the person before her. She then looked at the Infernape
“Hey” she said “Aren’t you?” The trainer smiled
“Train up your team. I’m sure I’ll see you again” he and his Pokémon turned and walked away, while Rhea stood there with her mouth open. Shadow looked up at her.
“Who was that?” He asked. Rhea just stood there and didn’t answer, staring into space.
