“So this is Zoroark Mountain” Rhea said, looking up at the towering peaks. Star was perched on her shoulder. Shadow, who was nearly twice as big as the Pikachu, was walking along side Rhea, a slight spring in his step. “And why are you so happy?” Rhea inquired.
“This is my home!” Shadow proclaimed. Rhea detected a touch of pride in his voice
“I thought you were from the shelter” Star said confused. Shadow rolled his eyes.
“Where do you think I was before I was in the shelter silly”
“Oh, right, he he” Star replied. Rhea smiled and shook her head. The small group continued along the track. Or rather Rhea and Star continued along, Shadow kept running forward to examine odd things and fell behind when he paused to sniff them. Curiously Rhea gently each out to Shadow with her mind. She felt him bubbling with excitement and curiosity, but there also something else, Shadow was also faintly nervous about something. Feeling it would be rude to intrude in his partners thoughts to find out the cause for this nervousness, Rhea withdrew. Star was watching her face with a knowing look.
“What?” Rhea asked innocently
“You were doing it again weren’t you?” she said quietly
“I don’t know what you mean” Rhea murmured looking at Shadow who had run ahead again.
“You were. I could see it in your face” Star said with a hint of accusation. Rhea gave a sideways look at Star
“I was only seeing how he was feeling” Shadow was rolling over and over in a patch of grass
“You couldn’t have guessed that any way?” Star asked pointedly
“He’s nervous about something” Rhea snapped. That took the smug look of Stars face
“Really? Why?”
“I felt it wouldn’t be kind to intrude” Star frowned at her, which Rhea ignored. There was a sudden shout and Shadow came dashing back to them, with an angry bird flapping behind him. Shadow ducked behind Rheas leg’s while the Pidgey fluttered in front of her glaring at Shadow
“What did you do?” Star asked him
“He landed on me!” the Pidgey squawked angrily
“It was an accident!” Shadow said defensively. Rhea raised an eyebrow at him “I was rolling in that grass, but didn’t realise it was above a ledge. I rolled off and landed on her. It was an accident” he repeated. With her mind, Rhea once again extended her thought towards Shadow, being less gentle this time she asked
“Then what happened?” Shadow replied silently in his head
“She yelled at me and I ran away”
“Did you apologise?” Shadow did not reply, but Rhea felt awkwardness coming from Shadow. “Go and apologise” she communicated firmly. She side stepped away from Shadow and nudged him forward with her foot. Shadow edged toward the mad bird and said
“I’m sorry I fell on you, I didn’t mean to” the Pidgey hovered for a moment then landed on the ground
“Apology accepted” he replied, then looking at Rhea he asked “What are you doing here anyway” Star answered her
“We’re just travelling through. Off on an adventure you might say” The Pidgey perked up, interested
“Really? I’ve always wondered about going on an adventure” Rhea was thinking fast. A flying type would be a nice addition to the team and the next location, the Shaymin Garden, was bound to be full of grass types. Plus this Pidgey seemed like a nice Pokémon, now she had stopped squawking. She opened her mouth, but Shadow beat her.
“You could come with us” he said eagerly, apparently keen to be friends. The Pidgey was silent for a moment looking at the team before her.
“What would that involve?” she asked. Rhea replied
“You’d get fed regularly and Star and Shadow here could train with you to get stronger. Not to mention all the places you’d get to see”
“Seems good, what’s the catch?”
“All you have to do is let me catch you in this” Rhea said drawing out a Pokeball. He eyed it dubiously “You won’t have to stay in it all the time” she added
“They’re not as bad as you might think” Shadow added “Warm and dry, better than being in the rain” She seemed to have been convinced, fluttering over to land on Rhea’s head she asked
“So what shall I call my new partners?” Rhea smiled
“I’m Rhea Greenleaf, this is Star and Shadow” she gestured at the two who both smiled. Rhea lifted the hand holding the Pokeball up to him “May I?” she asked. He paused for only a second
“Yes you may” Rhea tapped the side of the Pidgey with the ball. It opened and she disappeared inside it with a flash of red. There was a moment where the ball shook, then the centre gave a red flash.
“Welcome to the team!” Rhea said, releasing her from the ball.
“Will I receive a name” she asked jokingly
“I’m sure we’ll come up with something” Rhea answered as the team walked away and started to ask questions about their new partner, while they in turn were asked questions.
